Lunar Surphase - by OGOGO

Lunar Surphase - by OGOGO.
III Records label new release.
Featuring igOr on guitar with guest appearances from Rod Oakes on MIDI trombone and Andrew Solovyov on trumpet and flute.

The increasingly creative guitarist, composer, arranger and conductor Igor Grigoriev is back with his latest recording Lunar Surphase, the sixth release from his highly praised OGOGO sequence on III Records. Proper to the elevated values placed by its forerunners, Lunar Surphase further develops the idea of far-reaching Russian avant-garde compositions. The compositions were recorded in Los Angeles, Madrid, Lisbon, Rome and Venice. Igor was joined by a couple of fellow California and Russian musicians, including Rod Oakes on trombone and Andrew Solovyov on trumpet and flute.

OGOGO is a Los Angeles based avant-garde ensemble established in Los Angeles, California. Ensemble compositions at this time exploit sounds of private recollections and variations of stories. Melodies, harmonies, and rhythms are encrusted with the content of these stories as an approach for reconsidering reality, invention, and the metamorphosis of the transient structure of reminiscence and storytelling.

OGOGO’s work is a mix together of metamorphosis’ stirred by underground avant-garde artists that he grew up with in the art districts of Moscow, Russia, diversified with the improvisational, almost non-functional music gear. The broken up recollections of these bits and pieces are reassessed by uniting content of these memories straight into music compositions.

The energy of such pathway can unmistakably be recognized within the expansive compositions captured on Lunar Surphase. The guest appearances feature a number of Igor Grigoriev’s oldest friends (Andrew Solovyov and Igor Grigoriev have been playing music together since the late 70s and Rod Oakes is the founder member OG Duo, formed in early 90s). The chemistry is overwhelming when elevated brass phrases stop on cue, followed by limitless inventiveness’ similar to the improvisations by Oakes and Solovyov on “Connect With OGOGO.”

"Contemporary experimental music with its own 'voice' that may not be truly 'of this world' but from somewhere from the musical stratosphere, music from the unknown heavens, soundscapes from another ‘place’!" (Pete Brown)
